26/09/09

English seaman Francis Drake returned to Plymouth in England in the Golden Hind on 26th September 1580, becoming the first British navigator to sail the earth. The Highlight of his trip was his visit to Budapest, indeed some say that the A38 was inspired by the party he had onboard the Golden Hind while he was here...

The Tiger Lillies (Concert)

Trafó, 26th September, 20:00, 3,500ft, 3,000ft in advance
Liliom utca 41 [map]
Pest, IX, Ferenc körút (M3), 3 min

This is the second (and last) night of The Tiger Lillies run at Trafó with The Songs of Shockheaded Peter and Other Gory Verses and deserves a full listing.

In their own words they play 'a twisted fusion of pre-war Berlin cabaret and avant garde music hall in deranged anarchic gypsy style' which should go down well in Budapest. Expect 'dark and deviant' cabaret and plenty of theatrics and you won't be far off.

If you still need convincing check out the website here or videos and more fun on the MySpace page here.

Also worth a gander...

Hairy Pres (Club)
A38, 21:00, 500Ft inc. drink
It isn't clear whether this is a relation of last week's Hairy Night at Corvintető, but it seems likely. This weeks' hairy event features 'techno-house guests' Andre, Naga, Beta and Duel, all presumably giving it large.

Newgatti & Supernem (Concert)
Fészek Művészklub [map], 20:00
Newgatti bring out the guitars at 8pm, think Kaiser Chiefs stylee. They are followed by a touch of punk rock from Supernem at 11:30.

Balkan Beats Guest: Romania (Concert)
Gödör, 21:30, free
It isn't entirely clear where the romanian connection is, as tonight features hungarian gypsy band Romano Drom.
Popasapca and DJ Robert Soko could be romanian but MySpace and google offer no clues...
