13/11/09

Friday the 13th. Some people believe that this is unlucky day when all manner of things will go wrong. In Budapest it is believed that Friday 13th is actually a lucky day, when it is possible to drink as much pálinka as you like without fear of a hangover. Test this theory at...

Hippikiller (Concert)

Dürer Kert, 13th November, 20:00

Indie Garage Rock band, Hippikiller are playing all over the place at the moment and are actually bloody good! They describe themselves as a "bizarre mixture of pseudo art-hard rock and post punk/noise". In fact, they are quite a lot better than that and well worth a listen.

This is clearly a band who don't take themselves too seriously and, as a result, manage to come up with fun lyrics and imaginative songs.

Also appearing are SMRGL and Uzipov, or possibly Honecker, depending on which listing is correct.

Also worth a gander...

Easy Star All Stars (Concert)
A38, 20:00, 1,500ft
New York based Easy Star All Stars reach Budapest on the European leg of their European and South American tour. Expect lots of Beatles covers, some Pink Floyd and Radiohead among others. Better than the usual cover bands who haunt the city, check out their MySpace here.

Roy és Ádám (Concert)
Alcatraz, free
Roy and Adam, still riding the wave of their sold out 10 year anniversary tour (you did it, guys!). Expect feel-good Hungarian pop that treads lightly over anything resembling 'serious'. Perhaps that explains their cover of Madonna's single, 'Music'.

Alvin és a Mókusok (Concert)

Most, 21:00, free
These chipmunks are less squeaky furballs and more punk rock. Have a look at their MySpace here. They will be 'rebalancing the Earth'. Quite.
