On this day in 1922, the BBC began its first ever radio transmission, broadcasting to a few nerdy enthusiasts in the London area. The first news bulletin was read at 6pm by Arthur Burrows. Arthur would certainly have appreciated...

Also worth a gander...
W.A.S.P. (Concert)
Diesel, 19:00, 3.990 ft - 5,490 ft
Yet another curious musical phenomenon for Budapest's night-life, as one of the world's biggest names in heavy metal turns up at a little known, edge-of-town venue with minimal advertising and no doubt the expectation of a mega crowd. Congratulations to Diesel for getting them. If you're not familiar with W.A.S.P., check them out here.
Ready to Explode (Dance)
Trafó, 20:00, 1.800 ft (students 1.400)
Having premiered in Stockholm on the 9th, the Andersson Dance Company's latest piece has been teleported to Budapest for a cheeky weekend before returning to heat up the home hearth. Örjan Andersson (the world-renowned Swedish choreographer, not the oh-so-famous Swedish designer, duh!) has created a dance performance so hot that it might even bring back the summer. There's a video here where you can see the teleporter.
Ganxsta Zolee és a Kartel (Concert)
Old Man's Pub, 21:00
This ain't your granny's Gangsta Rap. Forget about the West Coast/East Coast controversy - Zolee's turned the musical Turf War into an often melodic and danceable World War - mixing up various Euro Hip-Hop and American Rap styles. And if you like that, stay for DJ Szamák and DJ Koontz ... although if you're looking for the DJ Koontz featured on Frontline, you will be heartily disappointed. Get a load of the Kartel on MySpace.
