18/12/09

It's Friday 18th December and the mass exodus before Christmas has begun. Most venues seem to have given up on getting any business this weekend and are treading water till New Year's Eve. So, if, like us, you are sticking around in Budapest and still seeking some entertainment then why not give these meaty little titbits a try...

Fish! (Concert)
Dürer Kert, 18th December 20:30 1000Ft
Ajtósi Dürer sor 19–21 [map]
Zichy Geza utca, (Trolley 74)

Thank goodness for Dürer Kert! At least there is one venue still trying to put some live music on tonight. Let's clear one thing up from the start however. This Fish is not Scotland's veteran Marillion frontman, who did show up last year in Budapest. This is actually a Hungarian soft-rock band who are entertaining enough but could perhaps have found a more original name! Also on the bill are Turbo, who do frankly sound a bit more Marillion-like than Fish! Bringing up the rear, with a passable psychedelic 70s style sound and a much more impressive name are Grand Mexican Warlock and the slightly less interesting sounding Azokon a Napokon. Give this one a try. The music should be entertaining and it's worth supporting the venue for being brave enough to put on a show when the rest of the city is already grinding to a halt for Christmas.

Also worth a gander...

Cantara (Concert)

Filter Club, [map] 21:00, free
All a bit gothic, experimental and weird but the haunting melodies do have a strangely calming effect for a cold winter's night! MySpace here.

Stylaw (Concert)
RS9 [map], 21:00
Yes it's time for some Hungarian Hip Hop... Sorry but I really can't get my head around this concept but these guys are about as good as it gets within the genre. They are good fun and their lyrics are in both Hungarian and English so worth it for a laugh, if nothing else! MySpace here.
