29/01/10

"Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary"... Such brilliant words and a bit fitting for the January blues. Today in 1845, this fine work of Poe's was first published in Budapest's main newspaper at the time - "The Hub". We continue in this tradition of fine writing by only publishing the very best in today's events listings...

Bijou (Concert)
Cökxpon, 29th, January, 21:00, 600 Ft
Sorosári ut. 8-10 (Boráros Tér)

Self described as "Silky, Sweet, Sophisticated. Hungarian." Bijou will be playing the underworld that is Cökxpon and if you are up for the smoky basement and bean bag chairs you should check it out tonight.
Bijou was born in 2003 to be a likeable, individual, downtempo band and in our opinion they have succeeded in with their bossa-nova style.

Also worth a gander...

Gönczi Gábor és a Smile Showtime Band (Concert)
Alcatraz, 21:00, Free
This eleven member band has been around for 18 years and they still manage to keep their performances fresh. Dancing, improvised film, and apparently even some "time-travel" are listed as their specialities. If you are up for the best-known Hungarian and foreign oldies, Latin and Disco hits get out to Alcatraz.

David Yengibarjan (Concert)
If Bar, 19:30, 2000 Ft (minimum cover charge)
Hub favourite Armenian accordion player will be playing an eclectic mix of Argentinean tango, Armenian folk and traditional jazz. If you haven't seen David yet have a look around his site and give him a listen.

Robbie Williams Tribute (Concert)
Old Man's Music Pub, 23:00
We here couldn't think of something more hilarious to do on a Friday night! Who knew that Robbie Williams had enough hits to have his own Hungarian tribute band? Our translators tell us this eight piece band plays all sorts of Robbie Williams-esq numbers. Be adventurous tonight and give it a try.
