10/03/10

"Hello? Sorry, I can't hear you. I'm on the...what? No, no, I said...hang on a minute, I just have to...what did you say? look just send me an sms..I said SEND ME AN...oh never mind". Celebrate 134 years of not being able to hear something important, getting annoyed by other people chatting on the train, cause on this day in 1876 Alexander Graham Bell did what he is famous for-making the first telephone call. Unfortunately the first words transmitted were not "but I really liked you, why didn't you reply to my texts?" or even "Can I order a 32cm Pepperoni?", but summoning his assistant in the next room by saying "Mr. Watson, come here, I want you". Could be the very first booty call? In any case, give your friends a 'bell' tonight and get them out for some of these little treats....

Soultalk Sanyival (club)
Merlin, 21:00, Free
Gerlóczy utca 4. [map]
Pest,V, Deák Ferenc Tér (M1,2,3), 3 min

Things just sound better on record. you know it, I know it. Problem is, MP3 players are that little bit easier to take on the metro. Head down to Merlin tonight to shake your funky thang and listen to what your parents would call "real" music. None of this modern stuff (it's just noise you know, no melody, no real rhythm. Not like we had in my day). DJ Sanyi lugs her collection of 33s & 45s out of the house and on the bus to bring you some actual real 70s soul. Head down and shake it like your mama never taught you. More details here.

Also worth a look-see ...

Simmer Down Party (club)
Filter Club, [map]. 22:30, free
Simmer Down! this is nothing to get excited about. Ska, reggae and the usual dreaded white-boy shenanigans with the boys from PASO soundsystem tonight. MC-ing, Jamming, and all the other rasta-ings your little unwashed head could think of.

Grencso Real Time Kollektíva + Vendégek (Jazz)
Jelen, 20:00, free
Ahh, Jelen. Etno-jazz, anyone? (that’s Ethno-Jazz,for those of you new to this difficult language). Same stuff on offer as always-but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Smoky, jazzy, avantgarde, blah blah blah. You would probably hate this place if you could understand enough Hungarian to realise all the crap being spouted about Ginsberg. But you probably can’t. So enjoy!

Tutenkhamun Exhibition
VAM Design Centre [map]
Tutenkhamun was kind of the James Dean of his day. But if to preserve James’ soul in the afterlife he had his brain pulled out of his nose with a hook, his heart removed, dried out and then put back in place; his internal organs preserved and kept in gold jars, and all the rest put in one awesome gold coffin. Sadly, this was not the case. But if you want to go see someone who has, you still have a month or so left to see the treasure trove dug up in the last century. Should be impressive because there’s not much left in Egypt any more. More Details here.
