8/2/08

The weekend starts again and again but this is the real one! Yes, there's a good chance of a hangover but at least you can sleep it off. And here's a few reasons to get hungover...

Fecske Presszó (Bar)

8th Feb
There's no event as such but Fecske's really starting to pick up and its got a much more genuine vibe than anything else on Ráday. Make sure you go downstairs though or you'll think it's more low-key than it is.

Mahler Symphony no. 8 (Concert)
.
MUPA, 8th Feb, 19.30
Komor Marcell u. 1 [map] [tickets]
Pest, IX, Boraros tér (T 4,6), 8 min

Mahler's 8th Symphony is his self-confessed masterpiece, although some regard it as "one symphony too far". Zoltán Kocsis guides the National Philharmonic Orchestra through 80 minutes of cantata, orchestral song, opera, passion and sacred oratorio. In other words: big, big sound.

Luc Tuymans: Retrospective (Exhibition)

Műcsarnok, Until 10th Feb, 1200Ft

Belgian, Luc Tuymans is not dead. Most artists who command the same level of respect are. His works examine the limitations of painting itself, and hence, are somewhat philosophical. If you really like them, you could always buy one.

Psychedelic 60's/Garage Rock/Other (Bar)

Nababe Bar, 8th Feb, from 10pm, Free

thehub's own Andy T is not one to refuse himself a little self-promotion. If an out-of-your-tree, off-the-wall freak out party in a teashop-like basement sounds like your pint of beer, come in and take a swig.

Atonement (Film)

Palace Kossuth, 8th Feb, 11:00, 13:30, 16:00, 18:30, 21:00

This British film has picked up quite a lot of good reviews, even though it looks a bit like The English Patient - the kind of big, historical epic that does exceptionally well at awards ceremonies. My Mum liked it.
