03/05/08

It's Saturday night, the Discovery channel is showing something dreary about kangaroos but there's no need to sit around watching that boxing. So why don't you turn off the TV, go out, and do something less boring instead?

The Misfits (Concert)

A38, 3rd May, 4500 ft adv, 5000 ft door
Petőfi hid [map]
Buda, XI, Petőfi híd (Budai hídfő) (T4/6), 2 min

On deck there's a Tilos party (500 ft) while below, the Misfits bring their horror rock to Hungary. Jerry Danzig may have jumped ship a long time ago, but that hasn't stopped the Misfits from hitting the road, with a drummer who goes by the curious name of Robo. Allmusic here.

Buda II, Széna tér (T4/6), 5 min

Flowers are in bloom, clothes are coming off, and I've got hayfever - hello spring! Millenaris are holding a day long festival in its honour. There's dance, theater, and a few young 'hip' Hungarian bands. (Full program here, on a pretty flashy, noisy website).

Sinden (Club/Concert)

Merlin, from 22.00, 3rd May,
1800 ft, girls free before 10pm

Gerlóczy u.4 [map]
Pest Centre, V, Deak tér (M 1,2,3), 4 min

'Hit me on my beeper, hit me on my beeper, beeper beeper beeper beeper, hit me on my beeper, hit me on my beeper, beeper beeper beeper beeper, hit me on my beeper, hit me on my beeper, beeper beeper beeper beeper'. Depending on your point of view, this could be forward thinking dance music from Fabric's (Graeme) Sinden, or irritating rubbish for the Krazy Frog generation. Either way, hopefully no-one will end up killing the dj (vol 5). Myspace here.

Nádler István / Fluxus East (Exhibitions)

LUMÚ, until 1st June
Komor Marcell u. 1 [map]
Pest, IX, Boraros tér (T 4,6), 8 min

After a long spell playing with black, white and blue, Nádler István has turned back to colour in a big way and it's these recent works, with strong vertical gestures that dominate the imaginatively-titled exhibition, "...vertical..." Meanwhile, on the same ticket, you can assess the Fluxus capacity of the old eastern bloc.

2 Days in Paris (Film)

Teréz körút 30 [map]
Pest, VI, Te
réz körútT4/6), 1 min

Julie Delpy is much more than a pretty face - not only did she write, direct, edit, co-produce and star in this new comedy, she also did Adam Goldberg's hair and fetched the croissants in the morning (citation needed). It's very likeable, in English and French, with subtitles where necessary. Reviews here.
