Ironman (Film)MOM Park, all week, 19:00
A summer blockbuster, and it's not even summer. The first in a likely franchise, there'll probably be an hour of exposition in which we learn what made Ironman Ironman, followed by a big battle. All very exciting, if you missed Spiderman. Or Batman Begins. Or the Fantastic Four. Or Hulk. Still, this picked up some surprisingly positive reviews in the States, and Robert Downey Jr's usually worth watching. (It's dubbed everywhere, but MOM Park).

Barabás Lőrinc Eklektric (Concert)
Gödör, 2nd May, from 20:00, freeErzsébet tér [map]
Pest Centre, VI, Deák tér (M1/2/3), 1 min
Trumpeter Lőrinc Barabás brings his Eklektric band to Gödör, playing some messed-up experimental jazz-hippy-dub-hop. Was it really just a week since he was rocking the boat...?
Specko Jedno/Pop Ivan (Concert)
Cökxpôn, 2nd May, 9pm, freeSoroksári út 8-10 [map]
Pest South, IX, Boráros tér (T4/6), 4 min
It's probably something to do with the kerts, but several bars have dropped their cover charges. Tonight, at Cökxpôn there's 'sacred-march, death-romance, bigot-tango, declarative-funky, failed-hits, and party-metal' from Specko Jedno alongside Pop Ivan's experimental jazz rock. My spaces here and there.

Naughty by Nature (Concert)

Petőfi Csarnok, Városliget,
2nd May, 4500ft adv, 5500ft door
Pest, XIV, Széchenyi Fürdő, (M1) 5 min
I can't remember seeing any posters for this concert ... whatsoever. Budapest's best kept secret or just suspiciously poor organisation? Whatever the truth, Naughty by Nature's 1991 debut is a seminal album... check this, or this, or this, for proof. Word.

Paranoid Park (Film)

Gus van Sant's new film has dropped off the radar very quickly - it's down to 2 showings on 2 days after just a few weeks. Maybe Hungarians aren't too interested in watching young, beautiful people zip about on skateboards. Or could it be something to do with the 'lack of plot development' and 'inaudible dialogue'...?
Kálmán Oláh, and famous friends,

and orchestra (Concert)
MUPA, 2nd May, 19:45, 1000 - 3500 ft
Komor Marcell u. 1 [map] [info]
Pest South, IX Millenniumi Kulturális Központ (T2) 3 min
Kálmán Oláh's assembled a pretty diverse lineup for the premiere of his Concerto for Symphony Orchestra and Jazz band, which takes up the first half. After the break there's straight up jazz from a quartet featuring Gerard Presencer, Ron McLure and Jack deJohnette. Jack played with Miles, you know...
