Celebrate Eva Peron's 99th birthday today! What do you mean "Who's Evita?" Only the illegitmate daughter of a Hungarian cook and former spiritual leader of Argentina!

If Evita were alive toda
y, I think she'd go to "La Kinky Beat"...

English language theatre in Budapest gets an equine boost from new production company Equus, who produce the play of the same name. It's an ambitious debut: a controversial, psychological drama, which questions the relations between society, science, religion and morality. Not the kind of play that can be watered down for a non-English audience, which bodes well for future productions.

Táncház (Folk dance)

Fonó, 7th May, 20:00
Sztregova utca

Kalotaszeg u.

Want to check out a bona-fide old-skool táncház? Scared that you haven't got a clue how to do any of the dances? Fonó has the solution: a folk-dance course at 18:00 and then táncház with 30-years-in-the-game Téka ensemble at 20:00.
When's the last time you danced to the hurdy-gurdy?

La Kinky Beat - Karate World Tour 2008 (Concert)

A38, 7th May, 2000Ft door, 1500Ft advance
Petőfi hid [map]
Buda, XI, Petőfi híd (Budai hídfő) (T4/6), 2 min

The Catalans storm the A38 in karate style! What does that mean? It means La Kinky Beat is on the ship. I'm talking ska; I'm talking reggae; I'm talking mestizo. It says techno here but I can't hear it myself. Sure, the singer may sound like she's been smoking 30 a day for the last 15 years but it only adds to the interesting blend. Support comes from Anselmo Crew, who are testament to what happens when Hungarians breath antipodean air.

Garden of the Magician (Exhibition)

KOGART, until 20th July
1500 HUF/adult; 750 HUF/student
Andrássy út 112

KOGART's latest exhibition is a retrospective of Gulácsy Lajos' work. He may not be as well known as Rippl-Rónai or Csontváry, but Gulácsy is still one of the outstanding modern Hungarian painters. Something of a bohemian, he travelled extensively, but still decided to make up his own, often ghostly, world.
