The Abandoned (Film)

LUMU, 6th June, 18.00, 600 ft
Komor Marcell u. 1 [map] [filmklub program]
Pest, IX, Boraros tér (T 4,6), 8 min

The latest offering from LUMU's fortnightly filmklub is (surprise, surprise)
yet another obscure horror film. This time, it's a slow-burning haunted house movie from Nacho Cerda, director of notorious short, Aftermath. Apparently, this film's central gimmick is that the characters battle their zombie doubles, whom they can't kill, since they'd be killing themselves. Woah! Heavy. Just like the filmklub's 25-minute Hungarian introduction - get there late or take some knitting.

5 Years of A38 (Club)

Műcsarnok, 6th June, 20.00,
2000 ft door, 1
000 ft adv
Dózsa György út 37 [map]
Pest, XIV, Hősök tere (M1), 1 min

No, we haven't boobed again, this a38 party really is at Műcsarnok. They boat is turning 5 and to celebrate, they've booked the equivalent of the local village hall. This party goes on for two days - tonight, there's techno from Cristian Vogel, experimental stuff from Burbuja, and flamenco-tinged downbeat electronica from Viennese duo Madrid de los Austrias.

Athe Sam (Festival)

Gödör, 6th June, from 18.00, free

Gödör's week-long Roma cultural festival ploughs on, unstoppable, like some kind of bionic warrior. As usual, there will be discussions, exhibitions, documentaries and a good deal of music. Tonight, some of it is provided by Serbian band Kal, who have 'a rock attitude punched up with urban beats,' according to CD Roots. Details here.

Jason Webley (Concert)

Sirály, 20:00, 6th June, 1500 ft
Király utca 50 [map]
Pest Centre, VI, Király utca (T4/6), 5 min

Jason Webley, an folk/punk/gypsy/experimental accordion player from Seattle, performs in Siraly's basement this evening. After reading his Wikipedia page, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Jason is ever so slightly barmy. Apparently, he 'used to theatrically die every Halloween, only to be born again in the spring. At his 2005 Halloween show he stated that he no longer wanted to live and die with the seasons. He did not die that year, and is expected to continue not dying on future Halloweens.' More Jason
here.

Karavan Familia (Concert)

MUPA, 6th June, 18.00, 1500 - 3400 ft
Komor Marcell u. 1 [map] Pest, IX, Boraros tér (T 4,6), 8 min

Not all of Hungary's gypsy musicians are at Godor - the Karavan Familia have strayed over to the Palace of Arts. Lead by Istvan Nagy and his wife, Ilona Farkas, the Karavan Familia really are a family.... in 2003, they augmented the band by adding their children, who grew into their new roles (!) Russian band Loyko are also on the bill, for what could be a pretty entertaining show.

Bodies (Exhibition)

VAM Design Center, 3300 ft adult, weekday, 3900 ft, adult, weekend.
[map]
Pest Centre, VI, Deak F. ter (M 1,2,3) 4 min

"I would no more go to an exhibition of dead bodies than I would eat a live one", said Germaine Greer, although she was probably trying to cover for the fact that she does eat them. The Catholic Church wasn't too keen either. But you may find that your squeamishness is overcome by the fascination of having the most realistic - real, in fact - insight into what's going on inside you that you'll ever see.
