Sex and the City: The Movie is apparently long-awaited, but not by me. Unless this really is the chick flick to end all chick flicks, I couldn't give a monkeys. Anyway, as usual, Metacritic's users are divided... AA A said that if you 'loved the tv series, you'll love the movie' while Steve O called it 'the most debasing piece of trash out there today'. But who's right?!

For a change this weekend, Budapest is having a street festival! It's ages since we had an street festival, a real outdoor festival, outdoors. I simply can't remember the last time there was a street festival in Budapest! I've certainly never ever been to one, and they definitely don't happen week in, week out, week in, week out, week in, week out, for no reason whatsoever. What a refreshing change! In this one Palya Bea and Romano Drom play on an outdoor stage, not far from Szimpla kert. I'll certainly be there, just to see what this street festival thing is all about! (Details here).

West Balkan Opening Party (Party)
The bar with the best lanterns in Budapest makes a welcome return. When it closed last year, I was pretty sad to see WB go - but it hasn't gone far. Actually, it looks to be in almost the same place, between Ferenc krt and Klinikak. Tonight, there's an opening party with the football broadcast on a huge screen... take some insect repellent.

You're sure to get your money's worth with Siegfried, which is scheduled to last for seven hours, until 23.00. It's all part of MUPA's mission to stage Wagner's marathon ring cycle over four consecutive nights. Adam Fischer, fresh from being named 'conductor of the year' by German magazine Opernwelt, takes charge.

Saturday now, and this excellent cultural festival marches relentlessly on. At 23.15, there's a gypsy rap show featuring G Point, Fekete Anyalok, and West Coast Bilako (...which west coast would that be then? Balaton?). Czech band Terne Chav are on before that, and Szilvasi show up in the early hours. Full program here.

Euro 2008 (Football)

M1 tv, from 7th June
Hungary [map]
I can't say that I'm too impressed with the Euro 2008 mascots. Are they boys or girls? One boy and one girl, presumably. And, I suppose that one's supposed to be Austrian, the other Swiss - but then why do they have exactly the same face? It's enough to make you pine for a real mascot, like Pique. Anyway, Euro 2008 kicks off today, and all the games are live on M1, so you don't need to go anywhere special to see them. Having said that, a lot of bars and kerts will have nice, big screens set up outside. (This evening, there's Switzerland versus the Czech Republic at 17.00, then Portugal vs Turkey at 20.30).
