If you don't like festivals, I think you'd better run to the hills. On the other hand, if you do, you may have a tough choice on your hands...

Palotanegyed Festival

8th District Street Festival, 8th June

Mikszáth Kálman tér, Lőrinc pap tér [map]
Kálvin tér(M3), 2 min

Now, it's anyone's guess who's on where or when but you can check out the poster on the right for a vague idea or click here for a bigger picture. There's quite a lot of variation in the music - from Besh o Drom to Kowalsky Meg A Vega - and if it's a nice day, it's a pleasant part of town to have a wander. (Tip: click both links at once to hear a complete mess.)

VIII. Pannon Bországgyűlés
(Wine Festival)

Városliget, 8th June, free
Pest, XIV, Széchenyi Fürdő, (M1) 5 min

This is more than a wine festival; it's a quality wine festival - no plonk here! A walk in the park is always improved by vast quantities of quality wine and a little quality folk music. And if you get there early, keep an eye out for the quality clown parade.

(Don't feed quality wine to quality young children! Drunken toddlers are unbearable.)

Athe Sam (Festival)

Gödör, 8th June, from 18.00, free
The Balázs Elemér Group and Nomada top the bill on the closing night of a festival that's been packing them in every night so far. That's Hungarian Folk, Renaissance and Baroque with one of the best drummers around, followed by Gypsy folk with Spanish, Arabic, and Serbian overtones. Full programme here.

Afternoon Family Picnic (Concert)

Sark kert, 8th June, 13:00, free
Margitsziget, [map]
Between Buda and Pest, II, Margit hid (T4/6), 3 min
Tel. 70-554-0670

thehub's favourite kert goes all hippy on us on a Sunday afternoon with The Durgas - "the Grateful Dead of the nineties", if you believe the German Rolling Stone. But don't take their word for it, check here or just head down to Sark kert.

(Incidentally, if you find yourself tied up until the evening, you can still catch the late night show at Gödör, although it's not mentioned in the Athe Sam programme.

Moholy-Nagy (Exhibition)
National Gallery

Tues-Sun 10-18, until 25th August
Buda Palace, Szent György tér 2
Buda, I, Disz ter (B10), 6 min
Tel. 20 4397 326

Photographer, typographer, sculptor, painter, and industrial designer, Moholy-Nagy was professor at the Bauhaus and swayed it away from expressionism and towards constructivism. This exhibition, however, focuses on his early works, where he's really finding his feet. However, there's more from his contemporaries than Nagy himself, including the superb Bortnyik Sándor, which really puts the whole thing in context.
