There's nothing I can do, it's a total eclipse of the sun! (If you happen to live in India, China, or the sea.) Meanwhile, in the full glare of central Europe...

Quimby (Concert)

Zöld Pardon, 22nd July, from 20:00
Goldmann György tér 6 [map]
Buda, XI, Petőfi híd (Budai hídfő) (T4/6), 2 min

Quimby: if the name in itself doesn't make you feel all warm and fluffy inside, you must be some kind of monster. They've been on the scene for 18 years, making them the Blur of the Hungarian alt-rock world, and their alt-rock is at the Blur end of the scale too. But in Hungarian. Mostly.

Also worth a gander...

Random Art Szerda (Club)
Dürer Kert, free
It's Wednesday, what can you expect? Well a "random art Wednesday" of course. Barabás Lorinc is here in two guises, first with his messed-up experimental jazz-hippy-dub-hop band, Eklektric ,and then with his reggae/hip-hop/dancehall project, Irie Maffia. The Qualitons are also on the bill with their cheesy green onions.

JazzGödör (Concert)
Gödör [map], 20.00, free
It's Wednesday night. Let the jazz cats out of the bag and give them to a good home: Gödör. Tonight, J. Squad (not dis J-squad) and Balogh Mari will fill your ears with the sound equivalent of melted chocolate and it won't cost you a jelly bean.

George Benson (Concert)
Papp László Sportarena [map], 19.30, cheapest tickets: 7900Ft
Budapest appears to have finally made it onto the tours of established acts... provided they're senior citizens. Leonard Cohen (74), BB King (83), and now George Benson (80). Once a distinguished jazz guitarist, he's spent at least 30 years as a purveyor of schmaltz. Recent Guardian review here.
